Resources for Practice

There are plenty of resources I have come across from school, learning modules and word of mouth. I found that having access to material that I can looks back at, and refer to while in practice allows for me to continuously learn, pass on my knowledge and grow in my skills as an educator. Three resources that I have used in my practice are Pinterest, YMCA’s Program Statement, as well as the Government of Ontario EarlyON media resources. Pinterest is so useful when it comes to activities because people love to share their creativity so I find it as an effective source of inspiration when coming up with activities for any age group. Another resource that has come very handy for during my field placement course at the YMCA is their program statement. This documents holds a lot of knowledge on their philosophy, foundation and how to be a successful educator while working there. I have used this as a tool to gain further understanding of certain concepts such as a play-based environment. It is also linked to important ECE documents such as the Minister of Education’s Policy Statement on Programming and Pedagogy and ELECT. Ontario’s resources for education based concepts are amazing. Through learning materials I find Ontario resources such as this Youtube video which describes how to navigate relational balance with directing and connecting to children. I have used this in my work with toddlers all the up to youth because I have had trouble in gaining the balance of how to get children to listen to me while showing them, I am someone that wants to build relationship. Overall these resources provide much support for me in order to grow into the educator this is capable of maintaining relationships, professionalism and creativity.

Pedagogical Documentation & Learning Story

This pedagogical documentation and learning story was a great tool for me as an educator to reflect on my teaching practices and student learning. I collected observations of children and had conversations with other educators to gain insights into the development of the child, how they learn and how to improve teaching strategies. By using pedagogical documentation, I can make their teaching more intentional, responsive, and effective. This process allowed me to engage the  parents and caregivers in their child's learning journey, fostering a collaborative and supportive learning environment. The learning story allowed me to show my findings and express the development of children which can be used for future reference by others.

Prized Experiences

So far on my journey towards attaining my ECE diploma, there have been many experiences where I gained memories that were fulfilling, allowed introspection and allowed me to live out my passion for being impactful in the lives of others. Two examples of this that I would like to share with you are an advocacy video of me speaking on racism in the classroom as well as a photograph of children at my placement engaging in an artistic sensory activity I prepared for them. For me these experiences build on to the resilience one needs to be an educator.
